Senior Statutory & Financial Reporting Accountant - German Speaker

Our client is a global asset management firm located in Luxembourg, offering diverse investment solutions across multiple asset classes for institutional and retail clients.

To expand the Luxembourg-based reporting team, the company is looking for a Senior Statutory & Financial Reporting Accountant who speaks German fluently. The main focus of this role is to bring the outsourced German real estate accounting in-house and align it with the group’s standard processes. After the transition, you will handle annual financial statements, regulatory reports, and board materials for the German and other EU companies. You will also support the finance team with accounting advice on changes affecting the German business. Solid knowledge of German GAAP is required.

Your Role

• Transition and Integration:

Lead the process of bringing all accounting functions (accounts payable, expenses, revenue, payroll, and banking) in-house, making sure they align with German reporting requirements.

• Financial Reporting:

Establish and manage efficient month-end closing procedures. Ensure accurate financial records and reports under German GAAP, IFRS, and US GAAP.

• Statutory and Regulatory Compliance:

Prepare and submit statutory and regulatory reports to auditors and authorities. Maintain up-to-date accounting policies and ensure compliance with local and international regulations.

• Tax and Treasury Coordination:

Work closely with tax and treasury teams to ensure accurate tax reporting and proper management of the company’s bank accounts.

• Audit Management:

Act as the main point of contact for auditors. Address queries, provide necessary documentation, and support the audit process.

• Process Improvement:

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, implement best practices, and support the adoption of new accounting software or digital tools.

• Records Management:

Ensure secure access to historical financial records (up to 10 years) for reference and compliance purposes.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Coordinate with other teams, such as revenue, property, and reporting teams, to ensure smooth financial operations and clear communication of requirements.

• Reporting and Communication:

Prepare regular financial updates and reports for management and board meetings. Serve as the primary contact for accounting-related queries.

Required Skills and Experience

• Fluent in both German and English (written and spoken)
• Strong knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB) and experience using DATEV
• Proven experience in statutory and regulatory financial reporting
• Good understanding of German tax and VAT rules
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with accounting systems such as Ariba, Concur, Revport, or Workday Financials
• Previous experience leading external audits
• Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• Positive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement
